Unidentified miscreants fled away with cash and jewellery worth over `1 lakh by beating up passengers on the GT Express train between New Delhi and Gwalior on Wednesday night.
According to the police, the miscreants armed with pistols targeted passengers in the train after Dhaulpur railway station had just passed. The railway police from Dhaulpur, Morena and Gwalior have launched a massive hunt for them.
To create panic among the passengers, the miscreants also opened fire. After injuring two persons with bullet injuries, the offenders looted cash and ornaments from the passengers and got way in the darkness.
The police said the train had crossed the Dhaulpur station and reached around three km, when the robbers who had boarded the general coach of the train from the last station rose to their feet and started committing the crime. The passengers later told the police that the miscreants were four in number.
Most of the passengers who were targeted hail from Morena and Gwalior.
On reaching Morena, the passengers filed a complaint with the police and the railway police officials flung into action. However, before the police could catch them, they had already disappeared.
The police said, the offenders also opened fire on some passengers who attempted to retaliate the misact of the robbers. As many as six passengers have filed complaint with the police. They include- Mohd Aqeel of Agra, Brijesh Gurjar of Morena, Hasin Khan of Gwalior, Janak Singh Jatav, Sobran Sharma and Rinku Jatav of Morena. Those passengers who lost only negligible amount in the incident did not file complaint with the police. Brijesh, who sustained bullet injury, has been admitted to Jayarogya Hospital of Gwalior.
