    Ex-IAS officer's city house confiscated

The Commissionerate Police armed with orders from the Special Vigilance Court on Friday threw former IAS officer and Additional Secretary of Cooperative Department Sanjiv Ray and his family from his residence in Gandamunda under Khandagiri police station here.

The police have sealed his house (Gouri Nivas). Incidentally, Ray earned the infamous distinction of being the first IAS officer who had to be driven out of his house on the proven charges of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Ray was pronounced guilty and awarded a three year jail term along with `1 lakh fine by the Special Vigilance Court on January 25. He was found to be guilty of possessing ill-gotten property worth `15,48,017. The Vigilance Court had asked to seize his assets on August 20. Several bank accounts of Sanjiv Ray and his family too have been seized.

However, the IAS officer has filed a case in the Orissa High Court pleading not to auction his house.

The Vigilance Court in the past had given orders to seize the farmhouse of former IAS officer Ramesh Chandra Behera located at Berhampur. The Special Court has recently given an order to seize the property of a former IPS officer.
