Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Saturday squarely blamed Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her family members for Amitabh Bachchan not yet receiving “Bharat Ratna” - that the Bollywood super star “richly deserves”.
Known for his friendly relations with Big B, the Sena chief said that it was “hostility” nursed by Sonia and her family members towards Bollywood super star that had come in the way of the UPA government bestowing the country’s highest civilian honour on Amitabh.
“Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan is the real Bharat Ratna. Renowned singer Lata Mangeshwar herself recommended his name for the country’s highest honour and people responded positively to her recommendation”.
“Like legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan richly deserves Bharat Ratna award. Since that Sonia Gandhi and her family members are hostile towards Amitabh, the ruling Congress leaders consider the actor as their personal enemy,” Thackeray said in an editorial published in Sena’s official mouth-piece “Saamna”.
Thackeray made a strong case for Amitabh being considered for “Bharat Ratna”, as he decried the efforts by some vested interests that were trying to malign Big-B, by sending “impersonated” twitter messages using a fake the identity ‘@ SrBachhann’ against Shah Rukh Khan’s just released Ra.One.
