Deep Chand Mathur retires from MCD

Deep Chand Mathur, Director (Press and Information) of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, on Monday retired from services after attaining the age of superannuation. In his 32-year-long stint with the civic agency, he served as head of the department (Press and Information) for nearly 15 years. He joined the MCD in 1980 as Information Assistant. He worked for establishing better coordination and relations between media and the MCD. It was during his term that major amendments were made in the DMC Act, 1957 in 1993. This led to reorganisation of the MCD. The number of zones was increased to 12 from 10 and the zonal offices were strengthened. The number of councillors had been increased to 134 from 100 and thereafter from 134 to 272. He showed his calibre and experience in dealing with sensitive issues. The senior functionaries of MCD wished him best of health and life on the occasion of his retirement.
