Ncw alarmed over harassment of women in corporate
Expressing concern over the rising complaints of harassment by female employees in the corporate sector, National Commission for Women today said that it was taking up such cases on priority basis. "We are now getting repeated complaints of harassment in corporate sector these days, and we are taking up all such cases promptly," the NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma said here today.
The NCW received several complaints in this regard from female employees working with corporate sector and our main focus was to ensure non-occurrence of such cases, she said. "The complainants alleged that they were harassed in the name of 'career growth' and male dominating in the company threatened to stall their growth professionally, if their demands were not fulfilled," Sharma said. Sharma said that a toll free helpline for women will be made functional within three months which will help women to register their complaints.
The commission is also launching a campaign 'Mahila Adhikar Abhiyan' to make women aware of their legal rights. "The campaign will be launched from Rajasthan on November 19 on the occasion of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary," she said. The four-day campaign will be launched in Kota, Bundi, Udaipur and Jaipur districts in Rajasthan where women will be made aware of their rights through road shows, posters, banners etc., and support of NGO would also be sought for execution of the campaign. Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand will also be covered by the campaign in coming months, she added.
