‘Ramdev backing tainted Badals’
Punjab Pradesh Congress committee president Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday asked yoga guru Baba Ramdev to spell out who he was supporting in Punjab.
Welcoming Baba Ramdev to Punjab, Singh said it was good that he was speaking against corruption, but he should find out who is the most corrupt in Punjab and who he was supporting.
Addressing a largely attended public rally, Singh said, “Baba Ramdev is unfortunately supporting the Badals who are the most corrupt rulers in the history of Punjab.” He said Ramdev was wrongly blaming the UPA Government when it had taken all the necessary action in corruption cases.
The former Chief Minister said the fact that the Badals’ were corrupt had turned into a folklore now as people have started sharing stories about the money they made from sand mining, gravel, transport, cable and liquor.
He said it was strange that the State was getting poorer and poorer while the Badals were getting richer. The PCC president pointed out that Punjab was probably the only State in the country which was doing worse on the economic front.
He said that the total debt of the State had crossed Rs 1.72 lakh crores and the Government was not at all concerned about it. He also said the per capita income had massively come down as Punjab was fairing poorer in comparision to neighbouring Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
Capt Amarinder asks cm to slash VAT on petrol in Punjab
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh has asked the Chief Minster Parkash Singh Badal to cut down VAT on petrol in Punjab.
He pointed out that due to exorbitantly high VAT, petrol is costliest in Punjab.
Singh said that petroleum prices are determined by international factors and that the Centre could do little about it despite providing an annual subsidy of `1 lakh crore.
Strongly advocating for a special relief for the farmers affected by border fencing, he said the Congress will take up their case with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
He also announced cash relief of `2 lakh each from PCC for the violence victims of Dera Baba Nanak, who were shot dead on Diwali by Akalis. This is besides the `1 lakh provided to each of the victim’s families by Gurdaspur MP Partap Bajwa.
