Narayan Rane’s supporters ransack NCP Minister’s office
In a major embarrassment for the DF Government, supporters of senior Congress Minister Narayan Rane on Monday ransacked the office of NCP Minister Bhaskar Jadhav, prompting the latter’s supporters to stage a noisy “rasta roko” on the Mumbai-Goa highway demanding the arrest of Sr Rane’s MP-son, Nilesh.
Upset with Jadhav’s criticism of Sr Rane in the last few days, the latter’s supporters vandalised the NCP Minister’s office at Chiplun in Ratnagiri district in the afternoon.
Suspecting that Nilesh was behind the attack on Jadhav’s office, enraged supporters of the NCP Minister staged “rasta-roko” on the Mumbai-Goa highway, bringing traffic to standstill for nearly four hours. It was only around the evening that the police could restore traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway, which passes through the Ratnagiri district. Unconfirmed reports reaching here said that the Ratnagiri police had registered a complaint against Nilesh.
Narayan Rane, who hails from Sindhudurg district, is an influential Minister in the DF Government, while his son Nilesh represents the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency in Lok Sabha. Ranes enjoy a huge clout in Sindhudurg district, adjacent to Jadhav’s constituency — Ratnagiri — in the coastal Konkan region.
The Rane-Jadhav stand-off is bound to escalate in the coming days.
