CBI to give Swamy file indicting PC
The CBI on Tuesday told a city court that it will give a copy of a file related to the 2G Spectrum allocation scam to Subramanian Swamy, chief of Janata Party, on Thursday. Swamy has alleged that the file will uncover the involvement of then Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G scam.
CBI prosecutor AK Singh told Special CBI Judge OP Saini that the agency will give the copy of the file to Swamy by Thursday after Swamy alleged that despite a judicial order on the issue, the probe agency has not given him the documents so far.
Swamy, in his application which was filed earlier, had sought the copy of the file, relating to the Unified Access Services Licences (UASL) policy regarding sale of equity (lock-in period) which was seized by the CBI on October 22, 2009, during its probe. He is seeking prosecution of Chidambaram in the 2G case.
Swamy said, “A week ago, you (judge) had passed an order asking the CBI to give the certified copy of the file to me but the CBI has still not handed that to me. How can a file which belongs to the court be traceable? A newspaper report stated that the file had reached somewhere else,” he said. He added neither the agency has submitted the file in the court nor are they providing it to him.
Earlier, Swamy had claimed that the documents, with endorsements and signatures of Chidambaram, proved the complicity of the then Finance Minister in the scam. The special judge, who earlier allowed Swamy to inspect the judicial records, later asked the CBI to give the file to him after it came to light that these were not filed by the agency. Briefing mediapersons after the hearing, Swamy said, “As per rules, if you get the licence for one year, you cannot sell it for three years. Chidambaran educated Raja on how to bypass this rule.
Chidambaram was the senior player and Raja was the junior player but till now charges have been framed only against Raja. This file is very crucial for Chidambaram’s prosecution.”
Swamy had said that the file was “very crucial” in establishing the corruption angle in the 2G Spectrum scam because, according to A Raja, “it was Chidambaram who told him that he can permit Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd and Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) Pvt Ltd to sell their licences (shares) to blacklisted companies Etisalat and Telenor respectively”.
ADAG top honcho ‘was ‘aware of 2G licence fee’
Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) president AN Sethuraman told a city court on Tuesday that he had signed 15 applications for grant of 2G licences on behalf of Swan Telecom and was aware well in advance about the licence fee of Rs 1,658 crore to be deposited with the Department of Telecom (DoT).
