Mulayam denies charges of nepotism, land favour
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday refuted an allegation that as Chief Minister during 2003-07 he was instrumental in carving out and allotting prime plots in the heart of Uttar Pradesh in favour of his family members.
A PIL filed by lawyer Vishwanath Chaturvedi in Supreme Court had accused Mulayam of abusing his chief ministerial office in the deal. The SC had issued notice on the petition in September 2005 which alleged that the then CM influenced the Lucknow Development Authority to change the land use of the industrial plot to residential before 28 plots were carved out for allotment to people close to the CM.
The land in question was situated at Vipul Khand in Lucknow and measured up to 10,900 square metres.
The Court even sought responses from several of the alleged beneficiaries that included former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, father-in-law of Mulayam’s son Akhilesh Yadav, Special Secretary Anita Singh and several others. While making little effort to explain his innocence, Mulayam rubbished the petition as an instrument of political vendetta.
He produced material to show how the petitioner held various posts in the UP Youth Congress from 1995 to 2000 and was elected as Member of UP Congress Committee from Trivedi Ganj block under Haidergarh Assembly constituency in Barabanki district.
