Grapevine has it! Diggy fashioning MP return
With AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh making frequent visits to Madhya Pradesh, political circles are agog. There is widespread speculation regarding whether or not he is making efforts to return to State politics. The ruling BJP is also closely monitoring the developments.
After Singh managed to get State Congress president Kantilal Bhuria and other leaders of his choice appointed in the Pradesh Congress Committee, it is being believed that he has taken just the right steps in this direction.
The air of Indira Bhawan, the State Congress headquarters, is now filled with talk that the former MP CM is gearing up to play a more active role in State politics. His frequent visits to Indore and Bhopal are being seen as his attempts to test the waters for the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
On November 9, he left nobody in doubt as to who was in charge of the party in Madhya Pradesh. Flanked by MPCC chief Kantilal Bhuria and Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, Digvijay leveled several allegations at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Government. However, the Chief Minister simply ignored the allegations, stating that his own party leaders were not taking Singh seriously.
This was not for the first time that the PCC witnessed such a crowd, but the important fact was that the supporters of other senior leaders like former PCC presidents Suresh Pachouri and Subhash Yadav and Union Ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia were not seen.
Singh has once again reiterated that he is not interested in returning to State politics. “If the Congress asks me, I would contest the Lok Sabha polls from M P,” he said, adding that he would not contest the next Assembly elections due in 2013.
However, political observers feel that by making the appointments of his choice, the high command has given Singh a free hand in Madhya Pradesh with a promise that he would bring it back to power.
