Restrain Swamy from making public allegations: Centre requests SC

Rattled over the 2G Spectrum Scam, Centre on Monday approached Supreme Court to restrain one of the main petitioners Subramanian Swamy from making public allegations against Home Minister P Chidambaram and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

In a two-page application, annexing media reports of Swamy’s public speeches against the duo, the UPA Government said that such kind of things is “subjudice”.

“The contents of speech clearly demonstrate that Dr Subramanian Swamy, who is intervener/applicant in the above mentioned appeal (2G cases) has by pressing issues which are the subject matter of pending judicial proceedings in this court and in the trial court has deliberately interfered with the course of distare(sic).

“When the judgement is reserved (case against Chidambaram) after hearing the parties, apart form law, propriety order demands that the litigant should not speak on the subject in public and declare that certain persons including an accused as guilty of serious offences. The said speech shows that the sole object of Subramanian Swamy is to malign and lower the image and prestige of public servants holding important offices in Government and Parliament,” said the Centre.

The Centre was objecting to the speech of Swamy on October 19 in Bangalore wherein he leveled allegations against Chidambaram and Sonia.
