CBI summons slain Swami Nigamananda’s parents

The Central Bureau of Investigation has now summoned Swami Nigamananda’s parents for recording their statements in connection to the seer’s death. Sources in the agency said that Nigamananda’s parents have been asked to appear before the CBI office, Dehradun in the last week of November.

Nigamananda’s father, Prakash Chandra Jha and mother, Kalpana Jha from Darbhanga district in Bihar, are expected to visit the Dehradun office of CBI on any working day in the last week of November, CBI officials said.

Incidentally, after his death on June 13, Nigamananda’s parents and family members had accused founder head of Matra Sadan, Swami Shivanand for allegedly forcing Nigamananda to sit on a fast unto death.

Holding Shivanand directly responsible for Nigamananda’s death, the family had sought action against the former. They also demanded for the body of Nigamananda to perform his last rites in their native village. The Haridwar district administration, had, however, denied them the permission, following which they had returned to Bihar.

The agency now summoning Nigamananda’s parents for questioning, assumes significance, in view of reports that the dead seer’s viscera test report does not confirm that he had died of poisoning, as had been alleged by the saints of Matra Sadan.

The CBI had last week received the much awaited viscera test report of Swami Nigamananda. While the CBI officials, who are investigating the case, chose to remain tight-lipped, sources said that report does not confirm that Nigamananda had died of poisoning. Sources added that several new facts have come up in the viscera test report, which need to be investigated.

Swami Nigamananda had died in the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) in Jolly grant on June 13, after a four-month fast against quarrying in Ganga bed. He had started his fast on February 19 this year.
