110 trains, 25 flights hit by winter haze
After two days of haze, expect a hazy Wednesday morning and a clear sky during the later part of the day. Continuous fog for the past two days had affected the rail and air traffic. More than 110 train services were affected and 25 flights were disrupted on Tuesday. The weather department has predicted that dense fog will cover the atmosphere on Wednesday morning but as the day would progress, the sky will be relatively clear.
Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal and a minimum of 14.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal for this time of the year.
Relative humidity remained at 98 per cent. For Wednesday Met department has predicted a maximum of 28 degrees and a minimum of 15 degrees teperature. The city had been witnessing the fog for the past two days, affecting the smooth operation of trains and causing inconvenience to travellers.
The Air Traffic Movement was comparatively less affected than that on Tuesday. The runway of visibility of 400m and a Runway Visibility Range (RVR) of 400 m affected 25 flights during the morning hours. RK Janamani, Director, Airport Meteorological Department said, "Compared to Tuesday, thick haze and smog prevailed at the airport. A visibility of 400 m triggered initiation of CAT I procedures."
More than 110 trains were affected at the Delhi Railway Station because of the fog. All the East bound Rajdhani Express trains that depart from Delhi in the evening were rescheduled for midnight. Disruption of flight and train services left thousands stranded. Four trains were cancelled on Tuesday. According to the weather department officials, absence of wind has resulted in haze over the city.
