Modi observes fast at Songadh
Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday had a dig at his detractors by saying that he is unfazed by canard being spread against him and reiterated he would continue with his ‘mantra’ of development.
Addressing the large gathering at the conclusion of his one-day fast of the ‘Sadbhavna Mission’ at Songadh in Tapi district of south Gujarat, Modi said that he is unperturbed by the barrage of lies against him because he is enthused by the State’s development.
Modi regretted that the country’s politics for the last 60 years was guided by the policy of ‘divide and rule’ and communalism. But Gujarat has shown the way, he said, that development politics can serve as the strength for the country’s growth.
The Chief Minister said that certain power-hungry politicians are sowing poison of hatred, casteism and inter-state rivalry in order to divide the nation. The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre is extending support to these fissiparous tendencies, Modi added.
More than 6,000 people, including 150 youth from the minority community, from the predominantly tribal talukas of Vyara, Nizhar, Uchchhal, Valod and Songadh too observed day-long fast along with the Chief Minister.
He also announced lift irrigation and road projects totalling `200 crore for the tribal-dominated district of Tapi in south Gujarat.
This was Modi’s seventh one-day fast after the launch of the Statewide ‘Sadbhavna Mission’ with a three-day fast at the University Convention Hall here from September 17 to 19. Earlier, one-day fasts were held in Dwarka in Jamnagar, Navsari town in south Gujarat, Patan in north Gujarat, Bachau in Kutch district, Bodeli in Vadodara district and Porbandar town.
