There were drums and folk dances outside the airport as Kanimozhi came out with her husband Aravindan and son Aditya.
To receive her was also her mother Rajathi Ammal and her step-mother Dayalu Ammal (the Director of Kalaignar TV). Party leader TR Baalu had accompanied Kanimozhi and her family from Delhi.
The GST Road leading from Chennai to the airport was lined with banners with pictures of Kanimozhi along with Karunanidhi and the DMK flags. The Chennai Sangamam artists carried welcome placards saying Chennai sangamame varuga varuga.
Kanimozhi, one of the directors of Kalaignar TV, was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on November 28 and she was released from Tihar the next day. She remained in Delhi to be present at the court for her trial in the court. She has been charged by the CBI of allegedly receiving kickback of Rs 214 crore from DB Group for the issue of 2G licence. She was arrested in Delhi on May 20. Others who were arrested and granted bail are Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, film maker Karim Morani and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd Rajiv Agarwal and Asif Balwa.
Kanimozhi arrived around 1.45 pm and was taken to her residence in CIT Colony. On arriving she thanked party workers, family and friends for their support. She expressed happiness on returning home, as she spoke to the media at her residence. She reiterated that she has to “prove my innocence and walk out of the allegations”.
A similar reception was accorded at her residence. There was nadaswaram and Carnatic music organised at her home. The bungalow in the posh locality was thronging with activity and pomp after months of dull days.
Such a reception according to DMK sources is usually accorded to people like Karunanidhi, Stalin and Alagiri. There fresh hope among her supporters that Kanimozhi would be honoured with a senior party post soon. Kanimozhi’s incarceration is seen as some sort of a sacrifice and martyrdom, for which she is expected to be rewarded.
Karunanidhi had recently told the media that Kanimozhi’s elevation is a decision to be taken by the party.
