Questions raised after latest killing of black buck in MP
The poaching of a black buck in the Itawa and Badnagar of Larkueen forest range of Sehore district on Thursday has raised many questions on the Forest Department and the villagers of the region.

The forest officials of the district have claimed that this is the first poaching incident of black buck in the area but according to the residents of the nearby villages, poaching is going on unabated in the area and poachers usually hunt at night and have nexus with the some of the local residents. Forest officials had arrested four persons, residents of Gilhari village, for killing of black bucks on Thursday in the area.

They were cooking the flesh of the buck when the forest officials, acting on a tip off, raided the place at around 3 am and arrested them. “The poachers usually come from the city area for hunting, mostly for the flesh of deer and black bucks and some people of the villages help them in this act,” said a local landlord, Mukesh Patel, resident Jamunia village, while talking to The Pioneer.

He further said that local forest officials were either unaware or they had a nexus with some persons since the poachers/hunters were mostly rich people.

“Its very easy to kill a hiranee (female deer) and Kala Mrag (black buck ) here because usually the villagers use air guns to shoo off these animals in the night when the black bucks come in herd to their field and if in this process anyone kills them no will come to know about it,” Patel said.

Commenting over the illegal trading of black buck skins and teeth, he said, “They usually kill them for flesh and nothing like illegal trade is here. But it can be possible also since we are not really concern over this hunting process.”

Sources said that since illegal felling is also going on unabated in the region these antelopes and black buck can easily be seen in the rural areas, which include black bucks also. Sources further said that some people of Nasrullahganj were reportedly involved in this whole act and everyone had knowledge about it.

Another villager of the area, pleading anonymity informed that the poaching of black bucks starts from Rahati area and poachers are often seen camping in the night in the area. Meanwhile, when asked about how it can be possible that this is the first case of poaching of black bucks in the area, DFO Sehore AK Neema said, “This is the first case of poaching and no poaching is going on in the area.”

Commenting over other crimes committed by poachers arrested on Thursday, Neema said, “The investigation is going on and I am not aware about whether they have killed any other blacks bucks earlier. The case is with SDO.”
