IMA cadets march to tune of national song
The Indian Military Academy with 615 Gentlemen Cadets and eight Foreign Gentlemen Cadets (FGCs) from four friendly-foreign countries marched past on the tunes of ‘’Sare jahan se achcha Hindustan hamara” in front of an august gathering. The Commandant of Indian Military Academy, Lt General Manvender Singh reviewed the parade and also congratulated all the young Gentlemen Cadets for choosing this noble profession and asked them to keep themselves updated and ready for all types of challenges.

While addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Singh said that by choosing this noble profession and as a young officer, the cadets are going to be part of the noblest strata of the society. “You are going to command instant trust and respect by virtue of your uniform. That is a rare privilege, and a rather difficult one to live-up to. It imposes on you social and ethical responsibilities,” he said.

Speaking about the Indian Army, he said that Indian Army is respected for being apolitical, chivalrous, brave, dedicated and selfless. These are the values all officers must uphold, and the ethos should guide every action of theirs. He said that “sensitivity shall reflect in your interactions with your troops and civilians as well, apart from your seniors and peers. It shall reflect in your treatment of the rich as well as the poor, the powerful or the powerless, the educated and the illiterate, during war and peace. Your behaviour shall be constant, because you have been through a training and regiment, which is based on character, values and ethics.”

The reviewing officer emphasised on virtues such as courage, fortitude, loyalty, comradeship in arms which is true brotherhood of soldiers. He also complimented the deputy commandant and chief instructor Maj Gen TS Gill and the faculty for moulding Gentlemen Cadets into very fine future young officers.
