Failed medical aspirant held for duping people
A man who duped people in the name of offering jobs at country’s premier medical institute, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), has been arrested.

His impersonation was so perfect that even his wife believed him as a Senior Resident at the neurology department at AIIMS. Identified as Rakesh Singh, the master cheat had managed to con many a people. Two fake name plates in his name, a rubber stamp designating him as senior resident, a stethoscope, few OPD cards and original educational certificates of several victims have been recovered from him.

DCP South district, Chhaya Sharma, said that Rakesh Singh did his graduation in Psychology, hence he knew how to win over people. He had always aspired to become a doctor but failed to clear Pre-Medical Test thrice. He then hit upon an idea to lure people by impersonating as a doctor. He belongs to Azamgarh district in UP and lives here along with his wife and son at H-76 South Extension (part-I) on rent,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP, south, said. His father is a lower divisional clerk in a college in Azamgarh.

The accused was arrested following investigations into a complaint lodged by one Amit Kumar, a resident of Gautam Nagar. Earlier Singh also lived at Gautam Nagar. Kumar told police that Singh had cheated him of Rs 3.65 lakh on the pretext of providing him a job at AIIMS. Hauz Khas police finally arrested Rakesh Singh near AIIMS on Thursday.

Singh told police that he came to Delhi few years back. He dressed himself as a doctor, bought a stethoscope and arranged fake OPD cards. He also arranged a fake rubber stamp inscribing his name as Dr Rakesh Singh, Senior Resident, Neurology Department, AIIMS. Singh would move around the hospital wearing an apron and look for such persons who were in need of jobs. He would offer them jobs at AIIMS in return of several lakh of rupees. Once the victim paid him a considerable amount, Singh would change his residence in south Delhi. He would also cheat by luring patients to make arrangement for their treated in reputed hospitals.
