Centre tells State Govts to conduct fire safety audit of hospitals
The Union Health Ministry has asked all the State Governments to get the fire safety audit done of all the hospitals in the private as well Government sector to raise standards of infrastructure to avert incidents like the recent fire tragedy at Kolkata's AMRI Hospital.

Shankuntala D Gamlin, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry, in a recent letter to all the states also asked the "administration to make an inventory of essential and life-saving devices in respect of hospitals/institutions in a time-bound manner."

Besides, the Ministry has also sought report in this connection from its at least eleven health research institutes across the country such as Mahatama Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences and All India Institute of Physical Medicines and Rehabilitation, both from Mumbai, Mysore-based All India Institute of Speech and Hearing and Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute to name a few.
