‘Dacoity on federal powers of States’
JD(U) president Sharad Yadav slammed both the Government and Team Anna during his speech. He termed legislating Lokayukta under Article 253 as “dacoity on the federal powers of the States”.
He said the Bill had been brought in haste as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was overloaded with several other works and asked the Government to strengthen the CBI by making it autonomous.
He took a dig at Home Minister P Chidambaram and said the country had suffered because of his “inexperience” in handling yoga guru Baba Ramdev and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.
He also took Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal to task saying he had tried to complicate the issue of legislating Lokayuktas. He asked the Government to talk to the representatives of the Group A, B and C employees before bringing them under the purview of Lokpal. Questioning the composition of Team Anna, he asked whether there was any SC, ST, OBC or farmer in it. He asked the Government not to be afraid of Team Anna.
Taking a divergent stand from the BJP, Yadav indicated support to the Government for reservation to minorities in Lokpal and said the Parliament had the right even to change the Constitution.
