    Army doctors examine Koda, aides
Army doctors on Wednesday examined former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and his former Cabinet colleagues Kamlesh Singh, Bhanu Pratap Shahi along with his aide Vijay Joshi at Army Hospital in Ranchi as per the directions of Jharkhand High Court.

Although Koda and the others were to be driven to the Army Hospital at 8.00 am, they were taken there by the administration at 7.00 am, an hour ahead of the scheduled time. Singh and Shahi walked to their vans. Both are said to be seriously ill which is why they have been admitted in the hospital.

Koda was taken to the hospital in an anti-landmine vehicle while his associates were taken there in separate jeeps. They were accompanied by Dr PG Sahai, Dr LB Majhi and RIIMS Superintendent Dr SK Chaudhary. The High Court had directed the Inspector General (Prisons) to ensure that they are taken to the Army Hospital under his supervision.

A committee of doctors examined Koda and the others at the Army Hospital under supervision of Major (Dr) P Saxena for more than five hours. All were then taken back to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in the State capital.

The medical examination was conducted following directions of the Jharkhand High Court. The Court had asked the director, RIIMS, to take Madhu Koda and his associates to the Army Hospital for examination by a five-member committee of doctors. Koda and team were lodged in the jail for more than two years in disproportionate assets and money laundering cases.

The committee will now submit a report to the IG (Jail), who will subsequently submit it to the High Court in a week's time. On the basis of this report, it will be decided in court whether or not they will remain in RIIMS or be shifted again to jail. These persons had been moved to RIIMS from the Birsa Munda Central Jail on medical grounds. The committee will also check whether or not they had any disease in the past.

An interlocutory application had been filed in Jharkhand High Court by Durga Oraon against the district administration, jail authorities and RIIMS officials regarding Koda and his associates being given special privileges in prison by authorities.
