2008 Gujarat blasts accused nabbed in UP
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Gujarat police in a joint operation arrested an accused of the Ahmedabad blasts from Ambedkar Nagar district on Tuesday. Police also recovered a letter written in Urdu, two memory cards and some cash from his possession.
As per reports, the Gujarat police and ATS arrested Habeeb alias Taiyyab, a resident of Nizamabad in Azamgarh from Jahangirganj in Ambedkar Nagar district at 4.35 pm on Tuesday.
Habeeb is an accused in the serial blasts which took place in Ahmedabad in 2008. Several cases against him are registered with Maninagar police station of Ahmedabad.
Police claimed that during interrogation, Habeeb disclosed that during his schooling at Islah Madarsa in Azamgarh he came in contact with the then active members of SIMI Aby Bashar, Abu Jafar and Anwer Azam. Influenced by their talks he became a SIMI member and started attending their meetings.
