MCA student takes on pick-pockets, killed
He dared to defy a gang of pick-pockets and ultimately paid with his life. Rajnish, a student of Master of Computer Application (MCA) with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), was murdered on the first day of the New Year when he tried to save his friends from the clutches of pick-pockets.

The 21-year-old student was stabbed to death and his two friends were critically injured by three pick-pockets on Sunday night. The incident took place in East Delhi's Kalyanpuri area when Rajnish and his friends were travelling in a bus. An altercation ensued between them after one of the pick-pockets snatched a mobile phone from them. It soon turned violent when pick-pockets whipped out knives and went on a stabbing spree, causing Rajnish's death and serious injuries to two of his friends.

Rajnish belonged to UP's Gorakhpur and lived as a tenant at New Kondli area of East Delhi. He was pursuing MCA from IGNOU. The injured youths were his friends and they have been identified as Manish and Deep Narayan. They have sustained stab injuries on chest and stomach. They were reportedly in a better condition and are recovering in Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital.

Rajnish, Manish and Deep Narayan along with three other friends had boarded a DTC bus of route number 118 outside Laxmi Nagar Metro station. Manish wanted to get down at Chand Cinema stop in Kalyanpuri area. He had barely moved to the gate of the bus when his mobile phone was snatched and the snatchers tried to flee, a senior police official said.

DCP, (East), Prabhakar, said, "The incident took place at around 8.30 pm on Sunday. Manish and his friends chased the snatcher and got hold of him and two of his associates. It was here a heated exchange of word ensued. Snatchers started stabbing them as they feared being caught by the police."

"It was Rajnish who was first to be attacked and he sustained a deep wound in his thighs and chest. Rajnish's friends told police that the assailants did not spare anybody who tried to save them. Manish and Deep Narayan also sustained stab wounds in the incident. The attackers, however, managed to flee to safety, the DCP said.

Rajnish, Manish and Deep were rushed to LBS hospital where Rajnish succumbed to his wounds. He had bled profusely by the time he was rushed to the hospital, a police official said. A case of murder and snatching has been registered against unknown assailants at Kalyanpuri police station. No arrest has been made so far in this regard.
