A jilted lover kidnapped the one-year-old child of his beloved to teach her a lesson. The man wanted to marry her and also provided her financial help when she was hospitalised a year back. Things turned sour when the woman identified as Pinky married somebody else and this infuriated him.
Accused Data Ram once lived with Pinky and wanted to marry her but she refused. Data Ram reportedly spent `one lakh on Pinky’s treatment. He then hatched a plot and kidnapped the one-year-old girl child when she was asleep and Pinky had gone somewhere. Data Ram kept shifting his hideout to avoid detection. The child was rescued from the kidnapper in Kanpur by a central district team.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Central), Devesh Srivastava said, “Police received a complaint from a woman named Pinky, a resident of Punjabi Basti area of Anand Parbat that her one year old infant has been kidnapped by a man living in her neighborhood. The man identified as Data Ram gave a call to Pinky telling her that he had kidnapped her daughter and she should come to Lucknow and later to Kanpur if she wants her back. Police traced the position of his mobile phone in Kanpur He was waiting for Pinky at the railway station with the kidnapped child. While he was asking for his money from Pinky at Kanpur railway station, a police team of Anand Parbat police station swooped on him. Police team first rescued the child and then apprehended Data Ram. The accused and the child were brought to Delhi.
On being interrogated, Data Ram revealed that he, Pinky and her husband used to stay together before Pinky’s marriage. He wanted to marry her, but he married his friend instead. He had been nursing a grudge against Pinky since two years. Finally, he decided to kidnap her infant and pressurise her to come back to him. He spent `one lakh for the treatment of Pinky’s spinal tuberculosis. This was also one of the reasons that he wanted to avenge her. After kidnapping her daughter, he asked for a ransom of `one lakh.
