New Year event organisers told to cough up tax

Acting tough against December 31 event organisers, the excise department has served ultimatum on all event organisers in the State who had organised entertainment programmes on December 31 to celebrate the New Year, asking them to deposit tax with the department by January 10, failing which necessary action will be taken against them.

As per the rule, an event company is required to pay an entertainment tax of 20 per cent for organising any paid entertainment programme.
