UKD-D forges poll entente with BJP
The UKD-D headed by Diwakar Bhatt has entered an electoral arrangement with the BJP following several rounds of talks between the two parties. Speaking to media-persons following talks held in New Delhi, Bhatt, who is the State Revenue, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, said that the party will contest the election on its own poll plank although it will use the BJP symbol.
UKD-D spokesman Satish Semwal said that, following the agreement between the two parties, Diwakar Bhatt will contest from Devprayag constituency and sitting MLA Om Gopal Rawat will contest from Narendranagar constituency using the BJP symbol.
Semwal said the fledgling party has not merged with the BJP but entered an electoral alliance. However, he said that Bhatt and Rawat would contest the election on the BJP symbol as it was apprehensive about the prospects of contesting with the new party symbol.
A decision on the UKD-D candidates contesting from other seats on the BJP symbol will be made after the BJP completes a survey of the chances of its own party candidates.
The State Government enjoyed the support of three UKD MLAs before the party broke up into two factions. Bhatt and Rawat retained their support to the Government while Dwarahat MLA Pushpesh Tripathi joined the faction that is now known as the UKD-P.
