After Bihar, Michelin Star-chef Khanna to tickle taste-buds in Jharkhand
The youngest Michelin-star Indian chef — Vikas Khanna, after his joint venture in Bihar, with Apoorva Sharan, to bring an International 5-star restaurant in Bodh Gaya now plans another outing in Jharkhand.
Khanna is the only Indian chef who played host to the US President Barack Obama and the First Lady for a gala Satvik dinner.
Owner of Restaurant Junoon in New York City, Khanna spoke to The Pioneer about his plans: “After Junoon was rated among the 10 best restaurants in New York in 2011, I dreamt of starting my new venture in my country India. And, undoubtedly Bihar was the first choice. After this big project, I wish to go to Jharkhand. I have been moved by the culture and food of both the sister states, right from my childhood days.”
Vikas Khanna, honoured with Rising Star Chef award, is playing judge and host in the second season of Master Chef India with Chef Kunal and Chef Ajay, replacing star Akshay Kumar from the reality show.
Deeply attached to the country of his birth, Khanna says: “Terming Mother for our country is quite true as Mother India is the only country which provides shelter to all its children and guests. All are welcome here, and today the youth of the nation should take forward the country's rich tradition, legacy, cuisine and treasure of its varied and diverse culture.”
The revival of Himalayan Lines to a 5-star international standard restaurant near the Maha Bodhi temple in Gaya is his idea. “We worship and respect God through our cuisines and recipes. One must always prepare food with an open heart for the people,” Khanna says.
The team for the restaurant will come from US to train the people in Bihar, and the food will have a homely taste.
“Our Indian cuisine is inspired by Ayurveda and is concept-based food. I wish more talented youngsters should come forward and project the global face of the country and its cultural treasure on the international platform,” Khanna said in his message to the country's youth.
“Punctuality and potential are the two most important things of life. As promoter of Indian cuisines, I wish to come with my chain of restaurants in India, especially in the two states of Bihar and Jharkhand,” he says enthusiastically.
