Baba Ramdev put on notice for influencing voters
The District Election Officer has served a show-cause notice to Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. Ramdev, according to officials is accused of trying to influence voters through his ongoing youth camp in Patanjali Yog Peeth.
The notice, which was served on Thursday, seeks explanation about the ongoing youth camp in Patanjali Yog Peeth and the foundation day celebrations held in Patanjali Yog Peeth recently. In view of the implementation of the model code of conduct for the forthcoming Assembly polls in the State, Ramdev has also been asked to specify if a prior permission for organising the programme was sort from the officials concerned.
According to case details, a youth camp had begun in Patanjali Yog Peeth on Tuesday. Thousands of youths from across the country are participating in the camp. The district administration was informed that in the camp, Baba Ramdev was addressing the public on various issues, including the politics scenario in the State and also distributing literature to the participants.
Officials of the State Intelligence Department sent a detailed report regarding this to the District Election Officer. Taking actions on the report, the District Election Officer on Thursday served a show-cause notice to Ramdev. The notice has been issued by the Returning Officer of Piran Kaliyar Assembly segment, KC Joshi. Considering the ongoing camp as a violation of the model code of conduct, Joshi has asked Ramdev to give explanations about the ongoing youth camp and foundation day celebrations held recently. Ramdev has been asked to reply to the notice within three days.
Meanwhile District Election Officer and Haridwar District Magistrate, D Santhil Pandian said that model code of conduct for the forthcoming Assembly polls will be strictly implemented in the district. “Notices will be served and strict actions taken, if anything is found to be violating the model code of conduct,” Pandian added.
