Will campaign for BJP, clarifies Uma
Firebrand leader Uma Bharati, known for her unpredictable style of functioning, gave some anxious moments to the BJP on Friday by expressing her annoyance with the leadership over Babu Singh Kushwaha’s induction and conveying her decision to not campaign in favour of the party.
However, as was expected, following behind-the-scenes maneuvers a denial came from her by evening wherein she claimed she will address more than two dozen public meetings in favour of the BJP in the next four days. “I will hold rallies till 9th as per schedule and will thereafter take programmes as the party decides,” said Uma in a clarification issued by her.
Uma got upset with the leadership on Kushwaha’s induction, sources said. She also claimed that she felt being sidelined in distribution of tickets mainly in Bundelkhand region. The greatest disappointment for her was the denial of ticket to Baburam Nishad from Hamirpur who was the state president of Uma’s erstwhile Bharatiya Janshakti Party.
Uma’s grudge on the issue is not completely unjustified as the BJP has fielded Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti from Hamirpur. Jyoti was given party nomination from this seat in 2007 Assembly and was again given ticket from Hamirpur LS seat in 2009. Sadhvi not only lost on both occasions but also failed to perform on expected lines in terms of votes obtained by her.
Former MLA from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh Narendra Virtharey who is programme coordinator for Uma told The Pioneer that earlier she was supposed to address the public meetings till January 13 but now she will address meetings only till January 9. He cited health reasons for the change of schedule.
