Hundreds bid farewell to Anuj Bidve

Hundreds bid farewell to Anuj Bidve
Hundreds of people, including friends and relatives, bid a tearful adieu to slain 23-year-old Anuj Bidve in Pune on Saturday night, hours after his grief-stricken parents brought his body in from London.

Eleven days after he was shot in Britain’s Salford, Anuj’s parents — Subhash and Yogini — completed formalities and took the body in a hearse to their Pune’s Wadgaon-sheri residence around 5 pm.

Hundreds, including his friends of relatives, visited his residence and had a last glimpse of Anuj. Among those visited Bidves’ residence and paid their last respects were Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council, Vinod Tawde of the BJP and his party’s national spokesperson, Prakash Jawdekar.

Later in the night, Anuj’s funeral was held at Yerwada Muktidham crematorium in Pune. There was a large turn-out of people at the funeral.

A student at the Lancaster University, Anuj was shot dead at point blank range on December 26 in Salford, UK, when Anuj was walking towards his hotel in the inner-city Ordsall district of Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) detectives later surmised Anuj’s murder to a “hate crime” which may have been racially motivated.

Sadly enough, Anuj’s parents came to know of his murder much later – that too after one of his friends posted a condolence message on Facebook. They got in touch with the British police subsequently.

“A horrific act has taken their son away from them, and it is absolutely essential that the Greater Manchester Police do everything to get to the bottom of the case. It’s unacceptable to have this sort of crime going on in our country,” Cameron said.
