BJP may take action against Munde’s nephew for rebellion
The State BJP unit on Sunday hinted at the possibility of initiating disciplinary action against party MLC and senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde’s nephew Dhananjay Munde, for putting up his own candidate and ensuring the defeat of party’s official nominee in the presidential polls of Parli Municipal Council.

One of the available pointers to the impending action against Dhananjay was that he was not invited to the BJP’s State executive meeting called to discuss the strategy for the forthcoming municipal corporations and Zila Parishad polls.

Confirming that Dhaannjay had indeed not been invited for the party’s State executive meeting, State BJP president Sudhir Mungantiwar said: “At a time when the inquiry is going on against him for alleged rebellion, the question our inviting him (Dhananjay Munde) to the meeting does not arise. In the Parli municipal council presidential polls, the party had issued a whip to all the councillors. Some of the party councillors voted against the whip. Dhananjay had allegedly provoked these councillors for voting against the party poll. He will be invited when he is required to have his say before the inquiry committee”.

In the Parli civic presidential poll held on December 26, Dhananjay had rebelled against his uncle Gopinath Munde and put up his own candidate against the party’s official nominee chosen by the latter.

In the poll, 12 BJP councillors voted against the party’s official nominee Jugal Kishore Lohiya, as against 26 votes polled by Dhananjay’s hand-picked nominee Deepak Deshmukh.

An independent candidate, Deshmukh was supported by 14 NCP-Congress councillors. Deshmukh’s victory was master-minded by Dhananjay himself, a fact he had himself acknowledged after the poll.

Efforts by Sr Munde and the state party leadership to prevail upon Dhananjay against leading the rebellion among the party councilors had failed. Meanwhile, Sr Munde sought to distance himself over the controversy of the party not inviting Dhananjay to the party’s State executive meeting.

“I do not consider myself bigger than the party. The party leadership will take a final decision on the matters relating to Dhanjay”.

Later in the evening, BJP’s national president Nitin Gadkari called for a conciliatory approach in dealing with matters relating to Dhananjay. “We have to build in confidence among party workers and be large-hearted, while dealing with them. We will definitely win elections. Let us all come together. In a democracy, there can be differences of opinion, but there should be meeting of minds,” Gadkari said, while addressing the state party executive meeting.
