Tainted Kerala top cop suspended
The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to suspend controversial senior IPS official Tomin J Thachankery from service pending inquiry for violating all-India service rules by going to the Gulf without authorisation and meeting suspicious people and accepting their hospitality in April, 2010.
After a meeting of the Cabinet, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told newsmen that the decision to suspend Thachankery was taken on the basis of the instructions and advice from the Centre. In a letter written to the Chief Secretary last week, the Union Home Department had asked the State Government to take action against Thachankery on the basis of an NIA probe report.
This is the fourth term of suspension Thachankery, known to be close to the Congress and the official leadership of the CPI(M), is undergoing in less than two years over his tour of four Gulf countries and reported events associated with it.
