Cash recoveries sweep poll-bound UP
Close on the heels of seizure of Rs 13.50 crore, said to belong to ICICI Bank, in Ghaziabad, the police recovered Rs 10 crore of another bank that was being shifted without legal documents in the adjacent Panchsheelnagar district on Wednesday.
According to reports, a static surveillance team intercepted a Tata-407 near Sidarsi police outpost in Pilkuha locality. The driver and four guards failed to give any documentary proof but said the cash belonged to Axis Bank and they were going to deliver it to Delhi. However, on getting no evidence in this regard, the police called income tax officials, who seized the entire money.
The drive launched by the Uttar Pradesh administration on the Election Commission’s directives to check use of black money also yielded result in Sultanpur, when during search of a Scorpio in Chanda locality, the static surveillance recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash from Bhola Paswan, the MLA from Saraimeer constituency in Azamgarh, on Wednesday morning.
In Hardoi, the police recovered Rs 30 lakh from a car during checking at Sursa crossing on Wednesday afternoon. In Varanasi too, the search at Rahiniya led to recovery of Rs 7 lakh from an Innova occupied by Rajneesh Agarwal, a resident of Narhi locality of the State capital.
In Lucknow, the static surveillance team recovered Rs 4.49 lakh from three persons intercepted at Sitapur road crossing in Aliganj on Wednesday morning.
In two separate search operations, the police recovered Rs 3.95 lakh in Etah and Rs 2.85 lakh in Azamgarh on Wednesday.
