We are expecting to sell 4,0000 cars this year: Saxena
South Korean car major Hyundai Motor expects to sell more cars this year depsite challenging times ahead.

“This is a short term blip and Indian growth story is a long term one. That is the pretty reason all auto makers are investing more and more on product development and launching new and innovative ones,” said Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) Director (Sales and Marketing) Arvind Saxena while talking to The Pioneer.

High interest rates and high fuel prices created havoc for car companies as sales fell in better part of the last year. Auto body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers took cue from the weak sentiments and twice downgraded its sales forecast for fiscal 2011-12.

When asked what was the total domestic sales last year and what is the company’s expectation this year, Saxena said: “We sold around 3, 73000 cars in the domestic market while we exported around 2, 42000 units. This year we are expecting to sell 4,0000 cars.

“It is a tough quarter but we expect market condition to improve in the second half of the year. We hope also that Government does something which gets the growth back. If growth is back auto industry will automatically do better,” Saxena added.

Asked when Hyundai is going to launch its four seater coupe Veloster, which it has displayed at the Auto Expo, Saxena said: “Veloster has already been launched in the US and customer assessment is currently going on in India. After receiving the response we will launch the same here also.”

Veloster has been launched this year in the US market at a price of around $18,000.

Hyundai had also showcased the sixth version of sedan Sonata on Thursday at the Auto Expo but did not reveal the price of the new car.
