No model code violation by Odisha CM, rules SEC
The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday found no violation of the model code of conduct for next month’s panchayat polls by BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a campaign meeting at Tangi in Khurda district.
The SEC has received a report in this regard from the District Collector. There is nothing to show any violation of the model code of conduct for the poll, a senior Commission official said. No violation of model code was noticed in the Chief Minister’s speech and action at the meeting as alleged by opposition political parties, he said.
The Collector has, however, been asked to caution the two poll contestants, who were present at the meeting on January 22, not to identify themselves as political party candidates at any platform, the official added.
The SEC had on January 24 sought a report from the District Collector on the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by Patnaik. The Chief Minister had then rubbished the charge.
