Tirath criticises Yadav’s promise
Woman and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath on Monday flayed Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav for promising to give Government job to rape victims terming it “weird and wrong.”
She said that the rape victims should be helped and laws be used to punish rapists instead of giving to such measures which will promote greed. She termed the announcement by Mulayam as part of the election gimmick and said that it was not right.
Tirath said that plight of battered baby Falak has moved her and she has directed National Commission for Women and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to send a team to properly investigate the matter and then action be taken against the guilty persons.
Tirath has also telephoned Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta asking him to take immediate action in the matter.
She said that Falak, who is critically injured and is undergoing treatment in AIIMS, will be provided help and support by the government under its Integrated Child Protection Scheme meant for victims of abuse, street children, orphans.
The minister felt that changing society’s mindset was most important to prevent such incidents and provide relief to victims. So, she is going to write to all the state governments to take measures for gender sensitization and rights of children.
