Omar orders probe on string-pulling Education Minister
As Congress leaders and Ministers in Jammu and Kashmir are busy exposing each other’s malpractices and wrongdoings, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday ordered probe into Education Minister Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed’s conduct in getting his son passed in matriculation examination through brazen unfair means.
The Chief Minister also asked the Crime Branch of Police to investigate the alleged role of Board of School Education (BOSE) officials in the cover-up operation.
Peerzada, a former JKPCC chief, allegedly connived with senior BOSE officials to get his son qualified in matriculation examination held in 2009. The officer who managed to forge answer sheets was the secretary of BOSE then and eventually was promoted to become the chairman of the organisation that conducts secondary school-level examinations throughout the State.
“The Chief Minister asked the School Education Minister to explain the facts. The file submitted to the Chief Minister by the School Education Minister has been sent to the Crime Branch of J&K Police who have been told to complete their inquiry within seven working days”, an official spokesman said.
Sources said Omar Abdullah was reluctant to induct Peerzada in his Council of Ministers when he took over in January 2009 but a strong lobby in New Delhi mellowed him in Peerzada’s favour. In 2008, during Ghulam Nabi Azad’s tenure, Peerzada was asked to put in papers when a legislator Shoab Nabi accused him of accepting an amount of `40,000 as bribe to clear a file.
