Delhi leaves Karnataka in dark: Says Bhardwaj
Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj has blamed the Centre for not providing adequate coal to generate power in the State.
In his address to the joint session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the Governor said the inordinate delay in arranging coal supply and grant of environmental clearances has hit the power scenario adversely. “It is unfortunate that new projects for power generation have not fructified due to inordinate delays in environmental clearance and allotment of coal linkages,’’ he said, adding that the State purchased as much power as possible to make up for the shortfall.
Bhardwaj said that the State, on its part, was undertaking measures to bring about greater energy efficiency. ‘’Smart Grid is the latest technology in which the energy generated and the consumption can be monitored.
The Opposition Congress criticised the Governor’s address by dubbing it unimpressive and devoid of a specific programme. They also joined five independent legislators in demanding the resignation of Speaker KG Bopaiah following SC’s strictures in the case relating to disqualification of five independent legislators. They alleged that he had no moral right to continue.
