64 convicted in fodder scam in Ranchi
A Special CBI court convicted 64 accused persons on Tuesday and pronounced sentence to all of them in fodder scam case no RC-35A/96-PAT and awarded maximum sentence of six years and minimum of two years.
All the 64 accused persons were also imposed fine amounting between Rs25,000 to Rs10 lakh. They were accused for illegal withdrawal of more than Rs12.43 crore from Doranda treasury in Ranchi. The transactions were done in the period of three months only — from September 95 to November 95.
“Total of 79 persons was accused in the case in which 13 died while one PK Jaiswal pleaded guilty and one Rana Subodh Sharma turned approver in the case.
Among those convicted are former regional director of Animal Husbandry department Junul Bhengraj, then Regional Director South Chotanagpur Range KN Jha, then Regional Joint Director, South Chotanagpur, Radha Raman Sahay and ex-assistant regional director KM Prasad.
Charge sheet in the case was filed on July 2000 while charges were framed on March 2004. Total of 204 witnesses were examined from the petitioner side while 20 witnesses were examined from the defendant side.
