CBI raids ex-army vice chief’s house
The CBI on Tuesday raided the residence of former vice chief of Army Lt Gen Noble Thamubraj and office of a private builder in Pune in connection with a land scam in the cantonment there.
Searches were also conducted at the residence of SR Nayyar, a retired defence estate officer of Pune Circle. Incriminating documents have been seized during the raids in Pune, sources said.
The investigation agency had on Monday registered a case against Lt Gen Thamubraj who was the general officer in command of Pune circle, Nayyar and Kalpatru Builders for alleged cheating and criminal misconduct in settling a land dispute matter out of court.
This relates to the dispute over a property measuring 0.96 acres at Pune cantonment. Though several court verdicts were given in favour of the army, the duo had settled the matter out of court.
The two retired officers and the builders have been booked under sections 120-B and 420 of IPC and various sections of the PC Act, 1988. The complaint was forwarded to the CBI by the defence ministry.
“Both army officials were booked for ignoring existing rules and policies, violating the terms of lease, entered into by the ministry of defence, caused pecuniary advantage to Kalpatru Builders to the tune of Rs46 crore without any public interest,” CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said
