Congress rejects Priya’s charges
The Congress leadership on Friday denied party MP Priya Dutt’s charge that she was not consulted in distribution of tickets for Mumbai civic polls and tried to mollify her by sending senior leaders to meet her and explain that there was no injustice done to her.
AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash said that Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and MPCC president have met Priya and explained to her the situation.
Explaining that elaborate arrangement made to ensure transparency in the process of selection of candidates, Prakash said that of 38 seats falling in Mumbai-North Central constituency, nine have been given to NCP with Priya’s concurrence. Of the remaining 29 seats, candidates were selected on the basis of her inputs in 26 constituencies while only in three seats candidates were selected on choice of Mumbai Congress president and party MLA Kripashanker Singh.
“Should MLA’s views not be taken into consideration while selecting candidates, “ he questioned and said that the party is confident of solving the matter through internal deliberations.
Priya had complained to political secretary to Congress president Ahmad Patel against denial of tickets to some of her supporters and had openly criticised Kripashanker for the humiliation suffered by her. The MP had said that she was hurt with the ticket distribution process as four loyal workers whose names she had recommended were not given tickets.
