Kerala Govt wants CBI probe on VS
PC George, the Chief Whip of Kerala Congress-led UDF Government, on Friday filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking a CBI probe into the issue of handing the State Data Centre, associated earlier with the C-DAT, to the Reliance group when octogenarian Marxist VS Achuthanandan was Chief Minister.

George alleged in the petition that the decision to hand over the data centre to Reliance without the knowledge of the Cabinet was illegal. The respondents in the case were Opposition leader Achuthanandan and former IT Mission secretary Mohan Sukumaran, son of Kallada Sukumaran, former Director General of Prosecutions.

George, vice-chairman of UDF partner Kerala Congress (M), filed the petition in the High Court even as a Vigilance inquiry, ordered by the Government, was on into the issue. George, who had raised the issue in the State Assembly in 2008, also alleged in the petition that TG Nandakumar, often referred to as a “corporate dalal”, was also involved in the handover.

Responding to reports on George’s plea seeking CBI probe into the matter, Achuthanandan said in Palakkad that he would reply to the allegations in the court itself. “Everybody knows that George would level such allegations (against me). (Chief Minister) Oommen Chandy has appointed him (as Chief Whip) for that,” he said.
