Karnataka Speaker suspends MLA over ‘tainted’ remark
The Karnataka Assembly witnessed noisy scenes on Friday over suspension of Independent MLA Goolihatti Shekhar for addressing the Speaker as tainted. Speaker KG Bopaiah suspended Shekhar for a day over the remark. Bopaiah has been battered by constant verbal attacks from both Opposition and Independent MLAs in the House.
The incident occurred when Bopaiah called Shekhar to raise an issue on which he had given a notice. Shekar, who was on his feet asked the Speaker “Can I begin my speech? Upon getting Bopaiah’s green signal, Shekar began... “Mr Tainted Speaker”. Visibly upset Bopaiah objected to this and asked Law Minister Suresh Kumar to move a motion to name the member under rule 357 and suspended him. Later the House was adjourned.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, who completed six months in office on Friday, told the House in his reply to a question that the land sharks had got 2,580.02 acres of Government land in Bangalore urban district illegally transferred to their names by fabricating 382 files.
