Congress MLA nailed for plot targeting Lokayukta
Congress MLA Kalpana Parulekar was arrested on Thursday for allegedly doctoring the photograph of Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta PP Naolekar to show that he is a former RSS worker.

Parulekar was arrested from Mahidpur, her constituency in Ujjain district, in the afternoon and brought to Bhopal. Crime Investigation Department officials accompanied her to First Class Judicial Magistrate Shashi Singh’s residence in Char Imli locality from where she was sent to Central Jail under 24-hour judicial custody.

The case was registered by the CID Bhopal after State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra raised the issue during the last Assembly session.

The allegation against Parulekar is that she produced a doctored photograph of Naolekar which showed him in RSS uniform to prove that the ruling BJP had favoured Naolekar, a former Supreme Court judge, in appointing the Lokayukta.

For this, Naolekar’s photograph was morphed with that of RSS supremo Mohan Bhagwat. The photograph was supplied to the Assembly Press room; it was also produced in the House during a no-confidence motion.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajay Singh, State Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria and Congress general secretary in-charge of the State BK Hariprasad termed the action as ‘politically motivated’.

While being taken to jail, Parulekar told mediapersons that the CID officials kept her in the dark and arrested her without any prior notice. “A few days ago, the CID officials contacted me over phone. I had said I would be in Bhopal when the Assembly’s budget session commences. Then I would reply to all the queries,” she said, adding that on Friday, they reached her residence all of a sudden and arrested her.

She alleged that her arrest was completely “non-democratic”. “We had been saying that Lokayukta is corrupt and I should have been arrested on this ground. If I have been made accused for showing a photograph, a similar photo was produced by Parliamentary Affair Minister Narottam Mishra and he should also be arrested,” she said.

State Congress media chairman Manak Agrawal and Bhopal North legislator Arif Aqeel were present.
