Narmada Parikrama path set to become pilgrim-friendly
The State Government has started implementation of Narmada Parikrama Path sub-project under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Narmada flows travelling 1,312 kilometers from its originating place Amarkantak upto Bharuch in Gujarat through extremely beautiful hills and plains. Efforts will be made for development of Parikrama-Path in the rural areas of 16 districts of the State including Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Hoshangabad, Raisen, Sehore, Harda, Dewas, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Dhar and Alirajpur.
A comprehensive project is being chalked out for the development of Path-Parikrama in the districts covered under the sub-plan. The Gram Panchayats situated on the route in these districts are preparing work estimates. A map will be prepared which will display as to how much area of the route falls in which Gram Panchayat. The route will be three meter wide. It will also be kept in mind that the road is so high that it is not inundated during monsoon and also helps stem soil erosion.
The surface of the road will be made smooth for onfoot travellers. Walls on both sides of the road will also be constructed in difficult terrains. Rostrums will also be built at several places on the Parikrama-Path for the convenience of travellers. Trees will also be grown and their protection will also be ensured. Repair of water bodies along the route will also be undertaken to ensure availability of drinking water to Padyatris.
