    Mauritius PM India visit starts tomorrow
    Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam will visit India on a six-day State visit from February 6-11 at the invitation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He will be accompanied by his wife Veena Ramgoolam.

    He would also be accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, senior officials and a business delegation.

    Ramgoolam will call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patel, Vice-President M Hamid Ansari and will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Singh, who will also host an official banquet in his honour. He will also call on

    Finance Minister, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Minister of State for External Affairs and UPA Chairperson.

    “Ramgoolam’s visit is expected to provide further momentum to the expanding and broadening bilateral engagement between the two countries. A number of MoUs/agreements in diverse fields are expected to be signed during the visit,” External Affairs Ministry said in a release on Saturday.

    He will attend business events both in New Delhi as well as in Mumbai. Ramgoolam will meet the Governor of Maharashtra, who will host a banquet in his honour. He will also be the special guest of honour at the convocation ceremony of Kurukshetra University on February 8, 2012, during which a Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) will be conferred on him.

    Ramgoolam is the son of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (regarded as the father of the nation in Mauritius). He was a person of India origin from Bihar. A majority of the population in Mauritius is of Indian origin, with more than 50 per cent being Hindus.
