Trouble mounts for Cong, another contestant arrested for ‘forgery’
The Congress, which already received a setback after candidature of two of its aspirants from Son Bhadra and Jaunpur, has been cancelled by the Election Commission, now faced further trouble when a key contestant from Etawah, Ajay Yadav was arrested in an old forgery case by the cops of Kotwali police on Saturday morning.
Besides, one former general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, Daljeet Singh, who is also a member All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) and is a known trusted lieutenant of State president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, now comes under scanner of sleuths of the CBI in multi-crore rupees foodgrains scam. Sources said close proximity of Daljeet would cast its shadow on polls of Rita Bahuguna Joshi contesting from Cantt Assembly seat as its opponents mainly BJP’s Suresh Tewari would not let it go especially when the two national parties had made a ‘corruption’ a big issue in the Assembly elections.
Reports said Ajay Yadav, son of veteran leader Balram Singh Yadav is fighting on Congress ticket from Jaswantnagar Assembly segment of Etawah. The party had high hope from Ajay Yadav and they were confident to dent the Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajawadi Party domain from the area. However, in a major setback to the Congress, Ajay Yadav was arrested by the cops of Kotwali police in Etawah after chief judicial magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with a case (crime no - 215/07) under Section 420/468/469/470/471 IPC. The case was said to be registered by a kin of Ajay Yadav with the Kotwali police station in Etawah reportedly after having some property dispute.
