Maoist leader shot in WB
A Maoist squad leader was killed on Sunday in an exchange of fire with joint security forces comprising CRPF and West Bengal police in Jamtal Jungle in West Midnapore district.
Yudhister Mahato was killed when security forces opened retaliatory fire after the Maoists attacked them during a combing operation in the area.
The joint forces led by 169 Battalion of the CRPF had launched a combing operation in the area on a tip-off that Mahato was holding a meeting in the jungle.
The forces recovered a 9mm pistol and a magazine after the operation but other rebels fled from the scene.
The operation was conducted at Madhopur village under Belpahari police station in West Midnapore district.
Mahato, hailing from Barikul area of Bankura district, was a member of Madan Mahato squad and had recently been given the organisational charge of Belpahari area.
A search operation has been launched in the area in order to apprehend the suspected Maoists taking refuge in the area.
