CBI hunts for Malkhan’s sister to plug theory holes
Elusive Indira Bishnoi, the absconding sister of Congress MLA Malkhan Singh, is the last hurdle for the Central Bureau of investigations as it prepares to file a comprehensive chargesheet in the kidnapping and murder case of nurse Bhanwari Devi in the special court.

Although the CBI has reconstructed the sequence of the crime, it wants more “solid evidence” to present a foolproof case in the court. The agency has already arrested ten persons including sacked Minister Mahipal Madrena and Amarchand — the nurse’s husband.

As of now, the CBI is getting ready to file the chargesheet some time in the next week as the court has granted judicial custody of accused till February 17.

CBI’s efforts during the last past two months to trace Indira proved futile as despite the intensive manhunt, the woman who disappeared from Bilara soon after Maderna’s arrest remained at large. She had prior to that been quizzed by the CBI several times.

In a bid to build pressure on Indira to surrender, CBI brought her aged mother Amari Devi to its camp office at Jodhpur. She was quizzed by the sleuths for two days, before she was taken ill and was admitted to a local hospital.

The summoning of Amari Devi, wife of former Minister late Ram Singh Bishnoi, had evoked sharp criticism from the Bishnoi community which held a massive rally on Saturday at Jodhpur to protest the CBI’s action.

According to CBI sources, Bhanwari Devi was in constant touch with Indira, who was aware about the relationship of the nurse with her brother. Indira was the last person to whom the nurse had spoken just before she was abducted. CBI is certain that Indira held the key to certain missing links in the story.

To build its case, CBI sleuths are also seeking information from those journalists who had broken the story of the video CD, which showed Maderna and Bhanwari Devi in a compromising position, much before she was kidnapped on September 1.

Some of them have reportedly told the sleuths that they were not the only ones aware of the video and that many senior leaders of the Congress party of the areas too were aware about its existence as early as in the middle of July. They also claimed that the existence of CD was very much in the knowledge of CM Ashok Gehlot.
