More than 2,200 in fray
As many as 2,233 candidates are contesting the 227 seats in the February 16 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) poll, an indicator to the presence of a large number of rebels in the electoral fray.
According to the data of the number of candidates in the fray in each of the 227 Wards made available by the BMC on Sunday evening, a maximum of 33 candidates figure in the list of candidates for Ward no 138, while there are only three candidates each in as many 17 Wards.
Apart from Ward no 138, there are a sizeable number of candidates in Ward nos 143 and 84, where there 32 and 27 candidates respectively.
There are rebels of different political hues in a majority of total 227 Wards in the BMC. All major political parties will have to contend with the rebels in the poll. It is only after the names of candidates in each of the Wards is made available that one gets to analyse the nature of threat faced by different political parties from the rebels.
